Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Investments and Industry Alexandar Poulev met with the management of the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) – Prof. Martin Vechev, the institute’s founder and scientific director, and Executive Director Eng. Borislav Petrov. Friday’s meeting focused on the next stage in INSAIT’s development and opportunities to expand its activities into new strategic areas, the Ministry said in a press release.
The discussions focused on the development of research and applied activities in artificial intelligence and high technologies, as well as the expansion of research in robotics. The participants also discussed opportunities for technology transfer, the development of highly qualified engineers and specialists, and closer alignment between scientific research and the needs of business and the wider economy.
Poulev said INSAIT demonstrated that Bulgaria was capable of developing world-class technologies. He said the government’s task was to unlock new opportunities for the institute’s development and strengthen its interaction with business and the state, while ensuring that scientific research found practical applications and generated high added value for the Bulgarian economy.
He stressed that the state should act as a partner to Bulgarian technology companies and research centres and create conditions for innovative solutions to be implemented more quickly. Poulev pointed to the Dobroslavtsi Industrial Zone as an example of how the state could unlock new development opportunities for innovative companies and support Bulgarian industry in high-value-added sectors.
The meeting also addressed the possibility of launching a joint initiative to implement INSAIT-developed technologies and solutions in the public sector. Potential areas included the digitalisation of administrative processes, reducing the administrative burden and using technology to improve preventive oversight.
Poulev said INSAIT should play a central role in Bulgaria’s digital transformation. He stressed the importance of developing an effective model through which the best scientific research produced in Bulgaria could reach practical application in business, industry and public administration.
The participants also discussed the development of the necessary high-tech infrastructure to support scientific research, technology transfer and the implementation of innovative solutions. They agreed on the need to deepen cooperation between the state, the scientific community and business in order to turn Bulgaria’s scientific potential into tangible economic and social benefits.
