Balgarianovinite.com The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) presented the July issue of its LIK magazine, dedicated to the Stage of the Ages festival, in Veliko Tarnovo on Friday, where BTA Director General Kiril Valchev announced the launch of a new English-language news section, Festive Bulgaria, aimed at promoting festival tourism across the country.
Valchev said the new section will launch on September 27, World Tourism Day, and will feature a map of festivals throughout Bulgaria together with related news coverage. The initiative, developed in partnership with the Tourism Ministry, Bulgarian National Television and Bulgarian National Radio, will promote the country’s cultural calendar through BTA’s nationwide network of 33 national press clubs. He also noted that LIK magazine has previously devoted issues to a number of Bulgarian festivals and recalled that BTA has partnership agreements with 17 municipalities and more than 30 festivals.
Veliko Tarnovo Mayor Daniel Panov described BTA as a key partner in the city’s bid to become European Capital of Culture in 2032. He said the latest LIK issue recognizes the municipality’s efforts to establish Veliko Tarnovo as a year-round cultural tourism destination and highlighted the role of culture and creative industries in the city’s long-term development.
Presenting the issue, LIK Managing Editor Yanitsa Hristova said the Stage of the Ages festival has, for decades, attracted audiences from Bulgaria and abroad while showcasing Veliko Tarnovo’s historical heritage. Deputy Mayor Neyko Genchev described the festival as an inseparable part of Bulgaria’s cultural memory and praised BTA’s role in preserving and promoting national culture.
Speaking during the event, Sofia Opera and Ballet Director Plamen Kartaloff called for maintaining high artistic standards through careful selection of productions, while Konstantin Kisimov Music and Drama Theatre Director Gancho Ganchev described Stage of the Ages as an honour for both Veliko Tarnovo and Bulgaria’s opera theatres, highlighting the unique setting of performances at Tsarevets Fortress.
