President Iliana Iotova said on Wednesday that she would sign the decree recalling Bulgaria’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, adding that the coordination procedure had passed through her office. She was speaking to reporters ahead of the closing concert marking 170 years of community cultural centre activity in Bulgaria and the 115th anniversary of the Union of Community Cultural Centres.
On September 24, Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova signed a draft Council of Ministers decision proposing that the President of Bulgaria issue a decree recalling the country’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Arab Emirates. A meeting with Ambassador Ivan Yordanov was also held at the Foreign Ministry.
On September 18, Prime Minister Rumen Radev said he expected the foreign minister to prepare the ambassador’s recall as quickly as possible. His statement followed an announcement by Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev that a company which had paid for flights taken by Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) Chair Delyan Peevski was owned by the father of Bulgaria’s ambassador to the UAE.
