Presidential candidate Iliana Iotova visited Pernik on Monday to mark the town’s day and attend the opening of an exhibition at the Regional History Museum on Monday.
Iotova was welcomed by Mayor Stanislav Vladimirov and attended the opening of renovated halls and the exhibition titled “European Spirit in Everyday Life in Pernik”, at the Regional History Museum, housed in the Mining Directorate building.
Iotova viewed the exhibition, which recreates the atmosphere of the period through authentic personal belongings, furniture and household objects. The exhibits preserve the memory of mining engineers and their families, who contributed to the development of the mining industry and the modernization of Pernik.
The opening was accompanied by a short performance bringing to life former directors of the Pernik State Mines, engineers Georgi Konyarov and Vasil Radoslavov, and their wives. Two iconic local establishments, the Sportist confectionery and Razgele tailor’s shop, were also recreated. The performance evoked an era in which work and knowledge, Bulgarian and European influences, and tradition and modernity came together.
Organized jointly with the Palace of Culture and the Culture Pernik Foundation, the performance recalled the mining industry’s contribution to the construction of schools, hospitals and cultural institutions. It concluded with a message about preserving the town’s industrial heritage and safeguarding its future.
