The government’s goal is to turn Bulgaria into an important pillar of the stability and future of the European Union, Prime Minister Rumen Radev said on Friday at the opening of the high-level conference “Building Resilience Together: Bulgaria’s Membership in the ESM,” organized by the Ministry of Finance and the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) and held at the Grand Hotel Millennium Sofia.
The prime minister was adamant that Bulgaria is now offering solutions of strategic importance for the development of the EU.
According to Radev, the time has come for Bulgaria to make the best possible use of the benefits stemming from the country’s membership in the euro area and the ESM. This is directly linked to the government’s strategically important goal of transforming Bulgaria’s economic model from one based on consumption and redistribution to a model of high economic growth, driven by attracting high-value-added investment.
Radev also said that, for the stability of the EU and the ESM, it is of great importance for each member state to recognize its strengths and develop them not only in the interest of its own national priorities, but also for the benefit of the European community as a whole.
The conference’s special guest is ESM Managing Director Pierre Gramegna, who is due to take part in a discussion with Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Galab Donev.
The conference is being held to mark Bulgaria’s accession to the ESM at the end of June, making the country the mechanism’s 21st member.
