Victor Davis Hanson, one of Tucker Carlson’s go-to guests when he was on Fox News, called out the ex-cable news star for morphing into an unrecognizable figure who sounds more and more like a liberal who routinely spouts twisted opinions on topics ranging from World War II to Israel.
The veteran conservative pundit vented about Carlson during the Wednesday episode of his podcast for The Daily Signal.
“Tucker Carlson has done a lot of strange things since he left Fox News that are out of the ordinary,” Hanson said.
He rattled off several examples since Carlson was booted from Fox News in 2023, starting with his warped takes on the second World War. Hanson pointed to Carlson’s interview with podcaster Darryl Cooper, where Cooper called Winston Churchill — not Adolf Hitler — the “chief villain” of the time. Hanson said Cooper was “absolutely insane” to defend the Axis against the Allies.
He went on, criticizing Carlson for all but endorsing Michigan Senate Candidate Abdul El-Sayed (D) over Republican Mike Rogers; Hanson said this was a big departure from the Carlson he knew at Fox News, when he was worried about “radical Islam.”
Another thing that’s different is the Fox News version of Carlson didn’t talk about Israel in an “anti-Semitic fashion,” Hanson said. Yet another bad look was Carlson giving his “nodding approval” to a recent guest who said Algebra was bogus because it had letters in it.
Hanson’s remarks stand out, considering he went on Carlson’s top-rated Fox News show routinely between 2016 and 2023. He was often the first guest to come on and share his thoughts on the latest political news, right after Carlson delivered his opening monologue.
But he said he had to challenge Carlson after he recently accused Hanson of saying the nuclear bombing of Japan was “glorious.” Hanson scoffed and said he never said that — and would pay Carlson $1,000 if he could prove he did. He went on to explain he did not view the bombing as anything close to “glorious,” but felt it was “necessary to save lives” and expedite the end of the war.
“I don’t know what’s come over Tucker Carlson,” Hanson added. “I was on his show a great deal of the time, for years, and he made eloquent arguments I didn’t always agree with, but they were rational.”
Those days are long gone, apparently.
