Serbia’s Energy Agency granted Bulgargaz EAD a 10-year licence for the wholesale supply of natural gas, the Bulgarian company said on Friday. The decision confirms that Bulgargaz meets all requirements and is authorized to conduct commercial activities on the Serbian gas market.
The company said obtaining a natural gas trading licence in Serbia is part of its continued efforts to expand and strengthen its presence on regional markets and increase opportunities for cross-border gas trade with countries in Central and Southeastern Europe.
Bulgargaz already holds the licences and permits required for natural gas trading and supply in Greece, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania, the company recalled. It has also expanded its presence in Moldova through its registered subsidiary Bulgargaz North, which has obtained a licence to trade natural gas in that country.
Bulgargaz is also a registered user of gas transmission infrastructure in Greece, Romania, Slovakia, Serbia, Hungary and Ukraine, giving it access to these markets and creating additional opportunities to develop cross-border gas trade in the region.
On September 16, during an official visit by Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis, Energy Minister Iva Petrova and Czech First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlicek agreed that the time was right to launch a dialogue between Bulgargaz and the Czech state-owned company on cooperation in the gas sector.
