Bulgaria had the third-highest annual increase in total retail trade volume in the EU in June 2026, at 7.1 per cent, EU statistics agency Eurostat said on August 6.
Among member states for which data are available, the highest annual increases in the total retail trade volume were recorded in Luxembourg (8.3 per cent), Sweden (7.2 per cent) and Bulgaria (7.1 per cent), Eurostat said.
Decreases were observed in Romania (-6.6 per cent), Austria (-0.3 per cent), Belgium and Germany (both -0.1 per cent).
In the euro area in June 2026, compared with June 2025, the volume of retail trade increased for food, drinks, tobacco by 0.9 per cent; increased for non-food products (except automotive fuel) by 1.7 per cent and decreased for automotive fuel in specialised stores by 6.6 per cent.
In the EU, the volume of retail trade increased for food, drinks, tobacco by 0.7 per cent; increased for non-food products (except automotive fuel) by 2.3 per cent; and decreased for automotive fuel in specialised stores by 4.1 per cent, Eurostat said.
