President Iliana Iotova and Vice President Han Zheng discussed prospects for cooperation between Bulgaria and China at a meeting in New York, held as part of Iotova’s visit for the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, the President’s press secretariat said.
The meeting highlighted the upward trend in bilateral relations following the 2019 Joint Statement signed by then Bulgarian President Rumen Radev and Chinese President Xi Jinping to elevate relations to a strategic partnership. Iotova and Han noted the intensive political dialogue between their countries.
Agriculture is among the main areas of cooperation. Iotova stressed the need to facilitate access to the Chinese market for Bulgarian organic agricultural products.
Iotova and Han reiterated their support for establishing direct air service between Sofia and Beijing, which would facilitate business contacts between the two countries and boost tourism.
The meeting also highlighted good cooperation in education and culture. Vice President Han thanked President Iotova for supporting an initiative to present a Bulgarian Thracian treasure in Beijing in 2029, marking the 80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and China, the President’s press secretariat said.
