Balgarianovinite.com Plovdiv is hosting the 32nd edition of Week of Contemporary Art, which this year is dedicated to the theme “Bug in Reality”, the cultural institution said on Thursday. The exhibition is curated by Emil Mirazchiev and will be open to visitors until October 2. The event is a project by Art Today Association.
The exhibition brings together works by Anton Stoyanov (Bulgaria/Germany), Ayelet Carmi and Merav Heiman (Israel), Dumisani Karamanski, Donka Pavlova, Evi Schubert (Germany), Krasimir Dobrev, Nadya Genova, Sevdalina Kochevska, Simeon Stoilov and Stoyan Dechev. The works are united by an interest in states of instability in which the familiar begins to change.
Following previous editions devoted to the themes “After the War,” “For a Better World” and “Licht, mehr Licht”, this year’s edition continues the discussion about the state of the modern world, but turns its attention to processes of disintegration, refusal and transformation. Here, the “bug” is not viewed merely as a technical malfunction, but as a crack in the established order through which hidden mechanisms of reality can emerge, the organizers said.
The exhibition will also extend beyond the gallery space. Sevdalina Kochevska has already staged the artistic action “The Golden Ticket” in the urban environment, while Simeon Stoilov will present an installation at the Roman Stadium.
The project is funded by the Plovdiv Municipality, with the support of the Goethe-Institut Bulgaria.
