Most fruit and vegetable wholesale prices in Bulgaria increased this week, according to Sunday data from the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets.
The Wholesale Food Price Index, which tracks wholesale food prices in Bulgaria, rose by 1.36% to 2.312 points from 2.281 points a week earlier. The index’s base level of 1.000 dates from 2005.
Among vegetables, cucumbers recorded the largest increase, rising by 22.61% to EUR 1.60 per kg. Red peppers increased by 15.38% to EUR 1.20 per kg and green peppers by 13.31% to EUR 1.00 per kg.
Potatoes rose by 8.94% to EUR 0.64 per kg, tomatoes by 7.89% to EUR 1.47, lettuce by 5.60% to EUR 0.66, courgettes by 4.94% to EUR 0.85, and onions by 1.31% to EUR 0.58. Cabbage fell by 5.02% to EUR 0.52 per kg and carrots by 3.03% to EUR 0.64.
Among fruit monitored by the Commission, peaches rose by 12.37% to EUR 1.34 per kg, apples by 5.62% to EUR 1.08, and grapes by 2.19% to EUR 1.40. Lemons declined by 0.76% to EUR 1.63 per kg.
Cow’s cheese increased by 0.62% to EUR 6.10 per kg, while Vitosha-type yellow cheese fell by 0.48% to EUR 9.40. Yoghurt with a fat content of 3% or more declined by 3.95% to EUR 0.73 per 400 g container, while fresh milk rose by 2.56% to EUR 1.20 per litre.
Butter rose by 2.94% to EUR 1.49 per 125 g pack. Frozen chicken fell by 3.16% to EUR 3.53 per kg, while wholesale prices for medium-sized eggs remained unchanged at EUR 0.19 each.
Among other staple foods, rice rose by 0.31% to EUR 1.61 per kg, dry beans by 4.26% to EUR 2.14 and lentils by 3.37% to EUR 2.07. Sugar increased by 1.39% to EUR 0.91 per kg and type 500 flour by 4.62% to EUR 0.68. Cooking oil fell by 1.42% to EUR 1.73 per litre.
