An exhibition at the Ivan Vazov National Theatre will mark the 115th birth anniversary of actor Petar Vasilev. The exhibition will open on October 19, his daughter Rumyana Vasileva told BTA.
“He was a very striking, distinctive actor. He was a great intellectual. Bohemianism was completely foreign to him; he adored literature and all the arts,” Vasileva said.
He lived to almost 98, she said, highlighting that he retained his intellectual curiosity and spiritual depth until the end of his life.
The exhibition was organized by the Ivan Vazov National Theatre at Vasileva’s initiative. She thanked theatre director Vasil Vasilev for immediately supporting the idea and agreeing to honour her father.
Petar Vasilev was born on October 9, 1911, in the village of Sladak Kladenets, Stara Zagora Region. Before joining the National Theatre company, he performed on stages in Varna, Plovdiv and Ruse. During his decades-long career, he portrayed hundreds of characters from Bulgarian and world drama, including Malvolio in William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, Zlatil in Yordan Yovkov’s Boryana and Luka Lukich in Nikolai Gogol’s The Government Inspector.
