President Iliana Iotova discussed joint high-tech projects with her Swiss counterpart, Guy Parmelin, on the sidelines of the general political debates at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the presidential press secretariat reported on Wednesday.
Cooperation between Bulgaria and Switzerland in the high-tech sector is an example of excellent collaboration, Iotova stated.
For his part, Parmelin noted the active development of bilateral cooperation between Bulgaria and the Swiss Confederation, as the two nations mark the 110th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Iotova highlighted Bulgaria’s traditions and progress in high technology, emphasizing the successful synergy between science and the economy. She pointed to the work of the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT). She added that Bulgaria is one of six countries selected by the European Commission to host an artificial intelligence “gigafactory,”. She expressed hope that funding for this initiative would be included in the EU’s next Multiannual Financial Framework.
The head of State expressed hope for increased Swiss investment interest in Bulgaria, citing a number of successful projects.
Iotova and Parmelin also discussed the war in Ukraine. Iotova underlined Europe’s lack of a role in negotiations to resolve the conflict. The Swiss President presented an upcoming initiative for peace negotiations to Iotova.
