The conference “How Do We Tell Stories of Violence” will take place in Sofia on Wednesday, the organizers, the Association of European Journalists – Bulgaria and WakeUp Foundation, said. The event will also feature an analysis by the WakeUp Foundation and technology company Sensika on how Bulgarian media cover violence against women and children.
Czech documentary filmmaker and investigative journalist Apolena Rychlikova will speak about responsible journalistic coverage of gender-based violence and sexual exploitation, as well as the impact her investigations have had on Czech legislation. The conference will also feature Teresa Parker, a leading British expert on domestic and gender-based violence, who will present approaches to distinguishing secondary victimization of survivors.
On October 22, the programme will continue with workshops where Bulgarian women journalists will learn more about investigating violence and exploitation online, as well as protecting themselves against the increasingly widespread problem of digital harassment.
The event is free, with advance registration required due to limited seating.
