Education and Science Minister Georgi Valchev took part in the opening ceremony of the International Conference on Economics, Business and Management – ICEBM in Varna on Thursday. “The future of science lies in interdisciplinary research conducted by people with different areas of expertise if we want to be leaders, have a strong position and pass on good lessons to the young people who come after us,” he said.
According to him, education plays a key role because it prepares the future specialists who will enter the economy and need to be ready for the complex transformation that lies ahead as a result of the introduction of new technologies and artificial intelligence (AI).
“A significant proportion of current professions will be drastically changed, which means that university structures must make efforts in the field of continuing education. Many people need to be prepared to acquire additional qualifications and find their place in society and modern economies,” the Minister said.
He noted that a new technology cannot be stopped, despite the many fears it causes. “We must realise that AI is still in its infancy, but soon its spread into all areas of life will accelerate. The question is whether at this point we can try to start taming it, because every technology has both dark and useful sides,” Prof. Valchev said.
The future lies in hybrid intelligence, in combining human creativity, values and judgement with the computing power of artificial intelligence (AI), said Prof. Evgeni Stanimirov, Rector of the University of Economics – Varna, who also took part in the opening of the international conference.
The International Scientific Conference ICEBM brings together academics, PhD students, experts and business representatives to discuss the impact of artificial intelligence, digital transformation, innovation and sustainable development on the economy, business, education and scientific research.
The forum has two main thematic areas – “Digital Transformation, Artificial Intelligence and New and Emerging Technologies” and “Sustainable Development, Entrepreneurship and Economic Transformation”. This year’s edition places a special focus on the doctoral programme, which combines the presentation of scientific research with discussion and practical formats.
On Friday, the conference will continue with a meeting for the exchange of ideas and good practices among representatives of academia, business, the technology sector and education.
