Speaking to reporters in the Parliament’s lobby on Friday, Continue the Change (CC) Floor Leader Nikolay Denkov criticised Friday what he described as contradictory positions between President Iliana Iotova and the Foreign Ministry over Bulgaria’s position on a UN statement on Ukraine. He said that such differences damage Bulgaria’s credibility and called for greater consistency in the country’s foreign policy. He added that the head of the Bulgarian delegation, the President, was expressing a position that directly contradicted the one submitted by the Foreign Ministry as the government’s decision on supporting Ukraine in its war with Russia. According to Denkov, such discrepancies could no longer be allowed to continue.
Denkov also questioned the behaviour of Progressive Bulgaria MP Slavi Vassilev during parliamentary debates on lifting the ban on diesel exports. He said that under parliamentary rules Vassilev should have declared a potential private interest linked to a company he had previously established and transferred to his father, which, according to Denkov, is involved in the import and export of petroleum products.
Denkov further argued that lifting the export ban could contribute to higher fuel prices in Bulgaria.
