The great act of statesmanship of 1908 is a responsibility towards the present and the future, President Iliana Iotova wrote Wednesday on her official Facebook page on the occasion of Independence Day.
“September 22, 1908, is a landmark date in our national calendar, reminding us that with patience, reason, perseverance and joint efforts, we can achieve a great deal,” the President wrote.
“When we look back at the words spoken more than a century ago in Tarnovo, we find a message that has not lost its strength even today. In the Manifesto, Prince Ferdinand declared that Bulgaria must move forward in its cultural and economic development,’” Iotova said.
Today, too, Bulgaria must confidently assert itself as a free and equal state, defend its national dignity and shape its own destiny, the President wrote.
Our unity, energy and confidence will determine whether we can build Bulgaria as our secure and prosperous home, the post also said.
