“Independence is the most brilliant act of Bulgarian diplomacy, demonstrating the foresight of Bulgarian statesmen and their determination to shape the future,” Parliament Chair Mihaela Dotsova said in her address marking the 118th anniversary of Bulgaria’s declaration of independence at the Tsarevets Architectural and Museum Reserve in Veliko Tarnovo.
Dotsova said that independence was a victory achieved without war, battles, fighting or casualties.
“Independence must be defended every day. A free, united and equal state – this is the national ideal bequeathed to us by the Bulgarians who fought for it, won through the Liberation, endured through the Unification and achieved with the act of September 22, 1908, in the old capital of Tarnovo,” Dotsova said.
Independence is an act of strong statesmanship that demonstrates the determination of the Bulgarian people, but also shows that they are ready and able to write their own history and remain steadfast in the face of the injustices of the Treaty of Berlin, Dotsova added.
“On this day, we must not forget and must remember that independence must be defended every day with great wisdom, firm resolve and a great deal of effort,” Parliament Chair Mihaela Dotsova said earlier, where she took part in the celebrations marking the 118th anniversary of the declaration of Bulgaria’s independence.
Dotsova attended a festive liturgy marking Bulgaria’s Independence Day.
“Nothing can be taken for granted; everything depends on us,” the Parliament Chair said. “Today, we must defend our independence by protecting our national interests at all times and in everything we do, both in domestic and foreign policy,” Dotsova added.
