A regular three-month poll by the National Statistical Institute, the results of which were released on August 7, has found an increase in consumer confidence.
This is in contrast with the previous poll, which, as The Sofia Globe reported at the time, found a downturn in consumer confidence.
In July 2026, the total consumer confidence indicator increased by 2.9 percentage points in comparison with April, with increase both among those living in cities and those in rural areas.
The new poll found consumers more positive about the general economic situation in Bulgaria over the past 12 months, and their expectations about the coming 12 months were more favourable.
Compared with April, there was less pessimism about the financial situation of the households over the past 12 months, and about the forecasts for the next 12 months.
The NSI said that consumers continue to consider that over the last 12 months there has been an increase of consumer prices, but at a lower rate compared with the views found in the previous poll. At the same time their expectations about inflation in the next 12 months are more moderate.
However, consumers’ expectations concerning unemployment in Bulgaria over the next 12 months are more unfavourable in comparison with the opinions registered three months earlier.
The new poll found a slightly more positive total assessment of the present situation for making major purchases of durable goods, as the consumers’ intentions to make such expenditures over the next 12 months are favourable, the NSI said.
