Tax inspectors have found 20 violations in 27 checks at businesses in Veliko Tarnovo since Friday, the National Revenue Agency (NRA) said on Tuesday.
Senior Expert in the Communications Directorate of the NRA’s Veliko Tarnovo Territorial Directorate Boryana Dzhagarova presented the figures at a news briefing.
Dzhagarova clarified that the inspections were carried out from September 18 to 21 and were continuing on Tuesday.
She said Bulgaria’s former capital traditionally draws large numbers of tourists for Independence Day celebrations around September 22, prompting the NRA to step up inspections. The aim is to ensure fair competition and end unfair trading practices, she said.
The most common violations include failure to issue receipts, missing required details on receipts, operating without fiscal devices and discrepancies between cash on hand and recorded balances, she noted. Inspectors checked businesses in central Veliko Tarnovo and stalls at Samovodska Charshia, where they found two cases of retailers operating without fiscal devices.
Dzhagarova also noted a practice among retailers of failing to issue receipts. An inspection at an establishment in Samovodska Charshia on Tuesday uncovered three violations: no receipt book, failure to issue a receipt and a missing required detail on a receipt. Administrative violation reports will be drawn up, followed by penalty decrees within six months, she added.
She also presented nationwide figures. Nearly 34,000 inspections have been carried out since the start of the year, resulting in around 14,000 administrative violation reports. Of those inspections, 5,100 were conducted by NRA inspectors within the jurisdiction of the Veliko Tarnovo Regional Directorate.
Earlier this year, nine penalty decrees imposing fines totalling more than EUR 23,000 were issued over price increases at businesses in Veliko Tarnovo.
