Turnover on the Bulgarian Stock Exchange (BSE) reached nearly EUR 617 million as of September 18, already exceeding the EUR 611 million recorded for the whole of 2025, the Exchange said on Monday. The number of transactions rose significantly, increasing by about 30% year-on-year through September.
The BSE’s benchmark SOFIX index gained 26% since the start of 2026, following a 30% rise in 2025. In August, the blue-chip index reached its highest level since January 2008.
The BSE attributed the results partly to Bulgaria’s full membership in the euro area since the beginning of 2026 and an upgrade of the Bulgarian capital market by international index provider MSCI, while noting that the drivers of growth had already emerged in 2024.
Other contributing factors include the launch of EuroBridge, the dual-listing market where shares in Shelly Group and Eurohold’s bond issue, the largest on the BSE, are traded. The growing international visibility of some Bulgarian listed companies and a more favourable investment environment in Europe have also supported the market, the BSE said.
Alongside stronger international interest, the Exchange recorded increased activity among new retail investors. Their number had risen nearly tenfold to 18,000 by the end of 2025.
In early September, SOFIX crossed the 1,420-point mark for the first time since February 2008.
