Georgi Kandev is a candidate for vice president in the upcoming elections on October 25. He was put forward by a nomination committee alongside presidential candidate Andrey Gurov, according to a decision by the Central Election Commission.
Kandev served as Chief Commissioner and Acting Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Interior from February 27 to June 8, 2026.
He was born on February 27, 1975, in the town of Gotse Delchev. He completed his secondary education at the Yane Sandanski High School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in Gotse Delchev.
After high school, he served at the Hristo Botev Reserve Officers’ School in Pleven, where he acquired professional skills in military psychology, drill training, and the mechanics of cargo and combat vehicles. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the Ministry of Interior Academy with a specialization in Combating Crime and Maintaining Public Order.
Kandev’s professional career began in 1999 at the General Directorate “National Police” in Sofia, where he served as an inspector in the Crimes Against Property sector. In 2007, he began working in the “National Information Center for Sports Event Security” sector.
In 2026, he was appointed Acting Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Interior by the caretaker Minister of Interior, Emil Dechev. He retained his post following the parliamentary elections in April of that year but announced his resignation in June.
