Former ABC News correspondent Terry Moran claimed he pushed to do a report on ex-President Joe Biden’s fading health while at the network, only for his bosses to “shut down” the idea.
Moran made the claim during a Sunday interview on The Daily Beast’s podcast.
“In late 2023, early 2024, you know, it was pretty clear that Biden was fading rather quickly,” Moran said. “I had actually traveled with him to Japan in the Spring of 2023 and kind of eyeballed him there, and I thought, okay, he’s still functioning, but man, he’s frail.’ He looked like he’d blow away in a stiff wind.”
He then did an impression of Biden giving a speech at a very low volume, with Moran saying the former president’s voice was pretty much a “whisper” by his final year in office.
“I tried to do the story of Biden’s health before anybody else did in network, because I’d seen it. And I got shut down very hard,” Moran continued.
He explained he “gently and as respectfully” as possible pitched the story to his editors, saying it was a “legit issue” for Americans to worry about.
“I’m not a doctor, I’m not diagnosing — but we all know what we know when we see people fading. We all have had grandparents,” Moran said.
But he said he was blocked, with the network brass telling him it was “the medical unit’s business, it’s not yours.”
A rep for ABC News did not immediately respond to Mediaite’s request for comment.
His story comes after the coverage — or lack thereof — of Biden’s mental acuity has been a fairly hot topic since he left office. CNN anchor Jake Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson wrote a whole book about it last year, with Tapper admitting on the press tour there was “not enough” coverage of Biden’s health issues by the mainstream press.
Moran worked at ABC News from 1997 to 2025. He was let go after he ripped President Donald Trump and White House advisor Stephen Miller, whom he said was “richly endowed with the capacity for hatred.”
His latest claim about his old outlet follows him saying ABC News suffered from a deep-rooted liberal bias last month. He said the network’s total lack of right-leaning journalists hampered its reporting, especially when it came to covering Trump. At the same time, he said he stood by his “accurate and fair description” of Miller.
