The President must act as a balancer, serving as a check on the government and supporting it when it performs well, but speaking out firmly and clearly when the parliamentary majority makes wrong decisions, presidential candidate Andrey Gurov said at a campaign meeting in Pleven Friday. “I hear our opponents’ slogan that ‘power must be in safe hands’. I say that the oversight of power must be in safe hands,” Gurov added.
He said he could make several commitments to the people gathered in the hall. “First, I will work to protect the country’s security and independence. Second, I will always point out problems, their solutions and who pays the price before the bill arrives. Third, I will work to ensure that the rules apply equally to everyone. And fourth, I will be President of all Bulgarian citizens,” Gurov said.
He outlined several of the country’s main current challenges, focusing on security. “Ships hit by drones are sinking close to our shores. At such a moment, we expect those in government to take responsibility and act decisively to protect citizens. We expect information from the Bulgarian authorities, not silence,” Gurov stressed.
Before Gurov took the stage, members of the Initiative Committee and his wife, Stanislava Gurova, addressed the gathering. The meeting continued with a discussion between Gurov and members of the audience.
